PTO Welcome Letter 2016

On behalf of the ILE Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), I want to welcome all of our new families to the ILE community and say “welcome back” to all those returning to ILE for the 2016-17 school year! The ILE PTO is a volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, administrators and support staff who are all dedicated to improving the educational experience for our children. We do this by helping to provide items and services that are not included in the school budget…and we can only do these things with your support!

Did you know???

ILE PTO has funded the school’s computer lab since 1989 so that our students may learn the fundamental skills necessary for success in our increasingly high-tech world. The PTO funds all aspects of the lab including the computers, software, student work journals, related equipment, and the salary of the lab instructor, Mrs. Weddle. We’re also happy to be able to fund the salary of the Reading Coach for the fifth year and we’re very excited to have Mrs. Branch returning to fill the position!

Additionally, the PTO funds the lease of two school copiers, copy paper and toner (approx. $13,000); again, this expense is not covered by the county. We will also continue to provide playground mulch, grade level printers/technology upgrades, and start-up classroom necessities for our teachers.

To cover these and other facility and supply-related expenses, ILE PTO must conduct its annual fall and spring fundraisers. As a result of the great success achieved at both events last year, we were able to nearly fund the budgeted expenses for this school year (the rest coming from the dues and contributions outlined below), for this school year we plan to use our fund raising efforts to begin the long overdue updates to our playgrounds (plans and pricing are currently in the works and additional information will be present shortly).

Where your contributions go

While the actual costs for these items far exceed the amounts listed below, the level of success historically achieved by both the Warrior Walk and Pow Wow subsidize these costs. A portion of the costs, however, are covered by parents’ contributions on Registration Day, as shown below:

We are so appreciative of all of our parents who provide not only financial support, but also volunteer invaluable hours of their time to ensure the presence of both the basic necessities and an enriched learning environment at ILE. Parental support, in collaboration with Mrs. Mitchell, Mr. Shults, the teachers and staff, is what makes our school the premier elementary school in the county!

What to expect on Parent Night/Open House

After the Newcomer’s Welcome (Monday, August 15th at 5:30 in the Library), you’ll go to your child’s classroom where the teacher will go over the class rules, daily schedules, and expectations for the year. Teachers will share lots of important information including the best way to contact them throughout the year…and it’s also a great time to ask questions!



After meeting with the teacher(s), please make your way down to the cafeteria where we’ll have tables set up selling Spirit Wear and collecting PTO dues & Suggested Contributions. The computer lab that is fully funded by the PTO will also be open for you to look around. It is located across from the gym after passing the cafeteria. Your contributions help pay for the copiers, copy paper, the lab computers and lab teacher’s salary as well as the Reading Coach’s salary, and many more necessities.


PTO Fundraisers


FALL FUNDRAISER – 6th Annual Warrior Walk: September 30, 2016 (Rain Date October 3rd)

Students submit pledges per lap and commit to walk/run around the ILE track for approximately 30 minutes with their classmates and teachers. This event combines fitness and fun while raising money for the school. The most exciting aspect is that 100% of all pledges go directly to ILE and benefit our students! The children absolutely love this event! It’s the first big event of the year and is run completely by parent volunteers. It’s a great way to get involved and help out!


SPRING FUNDRAISER – Pow Wow: March 31 & April 1, 2017

The Pow Wow dinner and live auction will be held on Friday, March 30, from 6pm to 11pm. The event has always been held at Bluegrass Country Club, but we’re currently exploring other potential venues so the location is still TBD. The Friday night dinner/auction is for parents only with fun games and prizes and many wonderful items to bid on. Then on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm, the school is turned into a fun festival for the kids. This is a very fun event not to be missed! And once again, all the proceeds go to benefit the school!


These fundraisers are so successful due to the incredible support of the families here at ILE, through volunteering and donations; there are so many opportunities to support and help! You can bring in baked goods, volunteer your time, donate items for the auction or even have your business sponsor the event which includes an ad in our festival booklet that goes home with every student in the school!


Spirit Wear Sales: Throughout the Year

ILE logo merchandise is sold at registration, Parent Night and all PTO General Meetings/Performances for each grade. Monthly, the school has a “Spirit Day” on the calendar where students have an opportunity to wear their favorite ILE gear to school.







Spirit Nights: Throughout the Year

We encourage families to participate in our Spirit Nights to meet ILE staff, other ILE families and just have fun together! The businesses we choose for Spirit Nights donate a percentage of the sales back to ILE PTO. Reminders are announced through email, notes sent home, Facebook, and put on the school calendar. Our first “Spirit Night” is in September with Krispy Kreme. This is a unique Spirit Night where order forms are sent home and money is collected when forms are turned in. Mark your calendars!!!   • Publix Partners – Pick up a key tag at the Spirit Wear table and have the cashier scan your tag every time you check out!
  • Kroger Community Rewards – NEW!! Sign up with your Kroger Rewards card today.
  • ScripZone Gift Card Program – Offered a couple times a year; emails will be sent.
  • Office Depot – 5% cash reward to school for school supplies bought
  • Schoola – donate quality used clothing and 40% proceeds from sale of clothing goes to the school

Fall Parade and Parties: Friday, October 28th (Parade at 2:00pm & Parties at 2:30pm)

This is such a fun time! Students get dressed up in costumes and march around the outside track (weather permitting) for everyone to see. The Kindergarteners kick off the parade. The teachers even dress up. If you haven’t seen this, you must mark your calendar! Each party takes place in the classroom immediately following the parade.


Holiday Party: Wednesday, December 21st

This is an abbreviated day. Parties will begin at 10:30am until dismissal. Room Coordinators will email parents to ask for assistance with the party.


Special Events


Boo-Hoo (or Ya-Hoo!!) Breakfast: Monday, August 15th

This breakfast is for Kindergarten parents. This is a great time to meet new parents and learn about our school. The breakfast takes place in the cafeteria and is scheduled for Monday, August 15th after you drop off your child in their class.

Newcomers Reception hosted by PTO : Monday, August 15th 5pm- 6pm

Come join us before parents night begins at 6pm for a brief overview of the various programs at ILE and ask any questions you may have regarding the opportunities to get involved and be sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun stuff.

Thanksgiving Lunch & Book Fair:  Friday, November 11th

The PTO and Cafeteria Staff host a Thanksgiving Lunch together for our ILE families. It is held during each class’s regular lunchtime. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to come and eat with their children. Parents can also sign up to help serve. We also have a special table that you can win at the POW WOW auction to eat with a couple of very SPECIAL GUESTS on the stage in the cafeteria! The library also has a book fair you can visit while you’re here for lunch.

Adopt-A-Family: November/December

ILE (with the help of a Social Worker) “adopts” several Sumner County families during the holidays. Often the parents need our “gift” to help with utility bills. These families do not get any assistance other than what we can give them. Their children would not have Christmas if it weren’t for the generosity of ILE parents. This has been an ILE tradition for nearly 20 years and is a wonderful program! The collection of gifts will start the first week of November!

Field Day: Friday, May 12th

The students have fun at field day with their class at the end of the year. This event is run by our PE teacher, Mr. Knupp. Field Day t-shirts will be provided, so be sure to complete the form with your child’s size information. These shirts will serve a dual purpose this year and will be worn on field trips throughout the year as well. Then, on field day, the kids love to collect signatures of their classmates and friends on the shirt throughout the day. Tug of War is a HUGE event for the kids…and parents really enjoy this friendly competition as well!

Community Outreach

This is our second year of having a PTO community outreach program. Our community outreach chair also helps with adopt-a-family, the annual jeans drive, underwear drive, and other community events we have throughout the year.

Room Coordinators

Each class is assigned two (2) room coordinators (“RCs”) to assist the teachers and help with events. The RCs will send out many emails throughout the year offering you the chance to help with things such as bringing the teacher lunch and volunteering time in the classroom or at recess, etc. We also take donations at Christmas for our support staff and provide special gifts to show our appreciation for their work. The PTO holds three luncheons for our ILE staff through the year, and provides lunch for ILE teachers during parent teacher conferences twice a year. The other event RCs help coordinate is Teacher Appreciation Week which is held the first week of May.

This is where you can go in and see your child’s AR test scores and can even opt to have test results emailed directly to you.

Our PTO website includes contact information for the PTO executive board and all committee chairs, the PTO budget, calendar of events, and we’re excited to now be able to feature links to our fundraising sponsors’ websites!
